[the letter from Colt says the serial number 78108 is a .44/40 caliber Single action Army Revolver. It also says the finish was blue. Now it has that older gun patina.
Most of the 50 guns in a shipment went to Simmons Hardware Company and had a 7 and 1/2 " barrel. This one is 5" The date of the shipment was May 13,1882.
For it's age it is in good condition. It has one screw at least I think it was a screw that held the cylinder pin in place. That is damaged there are no other that I can see.
I am not a collector. I do sell some guns but I try to do my homework before placing them up for sale. The grips are very nice in that there are no cracks or chips.
Someone didn't use it as a hammer hanging wanted posters.. Before I list it for sale I would sure appreciate knowing the value of this revolver.
