I recently came into possession of what I believe to be a Colt 1851 Navy revolver. It was interesting to me both because of the condition, as well as the inscriptions on the gun.

1-Can anyone tell me what the inscription reads that is stamped on the forward facing rim of the cylinder?
2-Can anyone recommend an authoritative resource on the 1851 Navy?
3-Has there been discovered a source that can verify manufacturing dates of these pistols in the 182,000 sn range? It is my understanding from reading the Colt Archive documentation that nothing is available from them on this pistol, and I am wanting to pursue this due to the name inscribed on the grip strap of the pistol.

Doesn't seem to be much going on here. I looked at the Colt site and under Customer Services you can type in the S/N to get a date of manufacture. The 1851 Navy .36 Cal of that general S/N range shows it was made in 1865. Hartford revolvers were numbered 1 thru 215348.
The 51 Navies were very popular. According to my records 35,000 were purchased by both Army and Navy with the Army buying 20,000 of that number. Every 51 Navy I have come across requires research to determine what history is available on that particular revolver. Otherwise it is just knowing that it is a 4th model with interesting marks.
